A Guide to Marriage Invitations
Alex and I are so blessed to be newlyweds within our wedding photography business because we’ve found that it has been so much easier to give advice on wedding planning topics, considering we went through the entire process ourselves! We never understood why people fussed about the stress of planning a wedding until we got to that point (especially our wedding being out of state), so that’s why our goal is to dedicate some of our blogs to helping our brides and grooms save time and reduce stress in their wedding planning journey.
In this blog we are going to focus on wedding invitations, which are basically the face of the wedding! The FIRST impression you will have on your guests will come from the invitation, so it’s important that your invitation is everything you imagined. The best place to start is with the theme of your wedding. Will it be a barn wedding, an elegant ballroom wedding, will it be at a vineyard in the mountains, or a gorgeous beach wedding?
Basic Invite has options for EVERY single one of these themes with their marriage invitations .
We wish we would have known about them sooner because for our wedding invitations we were stuck with very little options, and we had a hard time finding the right invitation causing us a lot of time and stress. We wanted a specific invitation with a specific color, but unfortunately we were limited to whatever 3 color options were available for that style invitation. With this limitation, we decided to do a full photo background for our invitations instead.
The good thing about Basic Invite is that they have almost unlimited colors! You can choose from 180 different colors for ANY of the designs and up to 40 different colors for envelopes, unlike our invitations where we very limited. So start by choosing your style to match your theme, and then the color of your dreams. To make it easier on yourself, Basic Invite also offers invitation sets, where you’ll have everything you need all in one order, whether it’s registry cards, hotel and travel information, menus, and even matching thank you cards.
Another way to make your life simpler is to use the address collection service on their website, which is completely FREE. It allows you to send a link via email or social media so you don’t need to keep track of the many addresses you will acquire. A mistake I made when planning our wedding was Alex and I manually collecting addresses and trying to store them all in an excel file. In fact, I actually lost our address list TWICE, and by the third time of asking for addresses our guests were quite annoyed, so don’t make the same mistake we did.
Our last word of advice for your wedding invitations is to always, always, always order custom samples before making a decision. We thought we had found the perfect invitation until we saw all of our options in person, and once seeing them we decided to go with a different style than the one we loved on the computer screen. Basic Invite allows different styles of paper as well, so order your invitations with different style paper, shiny or matte, etc. and see which you like best! You can see some of their wedding invitations with a photo here in our blog or by clicking the link.
Remember these tips when starting to plan your invitations, and remember to have fun in the process. This is the most exciting time of your life, and remember to order a spare invitation package for your photographer to take pictures of!
